POVERTY SIMULATION CAMP
What?
Campers experience poverty through a variety of simulation while serving the poor. The purpose of this camp is to help young people develop a heart of compassion to better serve the Lord through the “least of these”.
Key Elements
Miniature World: Taking the world’s poverty stats and applying it to the small group gives students a better perspective on reality. For example, one in three people do not have access to clean drinking water. At dinner one evening, 1 in 3 students will get unsanitary water to accompany their meal. Some other simulations include the 80/20 dinner, bondage to sin, and famine.
Homeless Simulation: Some of the things campers will experience are loss of possessions, outside sleeping and meals with homeless people.
Service: Young people will be given the opportunity to live out God’s word by serving the least of these. Projects may include orphan and widow visitations, minor construction projects, food distribution, yard care, painting, house cleaning etc…
Group Gatherings: A time of dynamic and interactive teaching, singing and encouragement. Holler staff, youth leaders and guest speakers will play a key role in communicating God’s Gospel to the young people at camp.
